Arsenal suffered a worrying injury scare on Tuesday night as Alexis Sanchez limped out of training while on duty for Chile.
Sanchez,
who has established himself as the club’s first-choice striker this
season, suffered a calf injury ahead of Chile’s clash against Colombia
and will miss the game.
The
Chilean FA played down the injury describing it as a ‘low grade
muscular injury’ and also suggested Sanchez could even be available for
Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay.
'The
Medical Corps of the Chilean national team informs the player Alexis
Sanchez has a low-grade muscle injury,' a statement read.
'The athlete will stay in Santiago, under treatment and in evaluation.'
Nevertheless, Arsenal medical staff were frantically trying to find further information on Tuesday.
Even
if Sanchez is deemed fit for the clash against Luis Suarez and Co next
week, Arsenal will be keen for him to miss the game fearing he may
aggravate the injury.
Arsenal face
Manchester United immediately after the international break and manager
Arsene Wenger will be desperate for his talismanic forward to be fit
for the clash.
Four days later they go up against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
November
will be a crucial month for Arsenal, who have four fixtures in 11 days -
two in the Premier League, one in the Champions League and an EFL Cup
quarter-final.
Chile,
the Copa America champions, are fifth in their South America qualifying
table, level on 16 points with Argentina in sixth.
