A pregnant woman was left shocked after being handed a 4D scan of her unborn child that showed the baby smiling.
Aimee
Fagan, from Kirkby, Merseyside, said even the sonographer was surprised
by the moving image scan of her daughter, who is due to be born in
January.
The
27-year-old mother-of-two said she and the sonographer were astonished
to see the baby smiling every time her three-year-old, Mollie, talked to
Aimee's bump during the scan in Liverpool.
Aimee Fagan's unborn daughter was captured smiling when she went for a 4D scan
Eventually
when she did move, my little one Mollie was talking to my bump and the
baby just kept smiling,' said Aimee, who is now 30 weeks pregnant with
her third daughter.
'We wondered if it was because of Mollie and the lady said "stop talking for a minute", then the baby stopped smiling.
As soon as Mollie started speaking again she was just smiling away as if she recognised her.
'This will be my final one and it was amazing to see.'
It
was previously thought babies learned to smile after birth by
copying their mothers, but some experts now believe babies in the womb
exhibit facial expressions.
Aimee,
who was also accompanied by her partner Shaun, 34, and mum Jacqueline,
also had the detailed 4D scans when she was pregnant with Mollie and her
eldest daughter Macy, six.
She
said she was delighted to see a clear image of the baby's face -
and her smile made the moment even more special when the image was
revealed at Liverpool baby scanning centre Before the Stork.
Aimee and
Shaun have decided on a name for their new arrival but are keeping it
under wraps until she arrives in a planned Caesarean on January 12.
Aimee added: 'She's just the image of her dad but I could also see my other girls in her.
'I
hope she's going to be a smiley baby. My other girls are very
happy children, which is nice, and they're excited about having a
sister.
'Hopefully her smiling at Mollie means they'll get along well - until the fighting starts!
'She must be the happiest baby in Liverpool.'
