Neymar escapes unhurt after crashing £240,000 Ferrari on his way to Barcelona training ground

Neymar crashed his Ferrari 458 Spider on the way to Barcelona’s training ground on Sunday morning but escaped unhurt after the incident.

The 24-year-old was driving to meet up with team-mates before their flight to San Sebastian for Sunday's meeting with Real Sociedad when the crash occurred.

He was leaving the motorway in his £240,000 sports car when he appeared to lose control on the slip road that was wet from overnight rain.

he Brazilian international was shaken but unhurt and was able to walk away from the vehicle which had been spun around to face oncoming traffic by the crash.

Club official Pepe Costa – usually Lionel Messi’s assistant but also liked and trusted by Neymar - came to the rescue picking the player up and ensuring that he reached the training ground in time to take the team coach to the airport.

Barcelona – with Neymar unscathed – reached San Sebastian without any further problems and the he is expected to be named in the club’s front three alongside Messi and Luis Suarez.

Their meeting with Real Sociedad is a must win game against a Real Sociedad side who have had their best start to a season since Raynald Denoueix was in charge 14 years ago.

They are up to fifth and Barcelona have lost five of their last six visits to Anoeta. Barca coach Luis Enrique has never won at the home of Real Sociedad in three attempts as a coach. He lost 4-3 with Carlos Vela scoring all four when he was Celta Vigo manager and lost there for the last two seasons as Barca boss.

Even before the crash all eyes were set to be on Neymar because he is a booking away from missing next week’s Clasico and is bound to be wound up by the home team who saw how he tussled with Mikael Lustig in the Champions League in midweek and picked up a yellow card.

Neymar also has off-the-field problems with the Spanish Prosecutor asking for a two-year prison spell for alleged fraud.
On Sunday, there will be a chance to put that – and his lucky escape on the road – to one side as Barcelona look to close the gap on Real Madrid to four points at the top of La Liga.
