Yaya Toure apologises to Manchester City over 'misunderstandings of the past' but his agent has refused to say sorry... and Pep Guardiola says nothing has changed for ivorian midfielder

Yaya Toure has apologised to Manchester City following comments made about the club and manager Pep Guardiola by his agent Dimitri Seluk, who still won't say he is sorry.

Toure has found himself outcast from Guardiola's matchday squads following Seluk's constant criticisms of the Spaniard, which began when the former Barcelona boss was appointed to his new role at the Etihad.

Speaking on Friday, Guardiola said nothing had changed from when he refused to consider Toure for selection until his agent offered an apology.

Sportsmail understands the Ivorian midfielder still remains well down the midfield pecking order at City and he is unlikely to be considered for the game against Middlesbrough this weekend.

After a stand-off which has lasted months, however, the Ivory Coast international appears to be trying to take steps to rectify the situation.
In a statement uploaded to his personal website and Facebook account, he said: 'I wish to apologise - on behalf of myself and those who represent me - to the management team and all those working at the club for the misunderstandings from the past.
'Those statements do not represent my views on the club or the people who work there.

'I have nothing but respect for Manchester City and only wish the best for the football club.

'I am immensely proud to have played a part in the club's history and want to help City succeed further. I live to play football and entertain the fans.

'On that note, I would like to thank all of the fans for their messages through this difficult period. This means a great deal to me and my family.'

Whether an apology from Toure, rather than Seluk - who still shows no remorse, proves to be enough for Guardiola remains to be seen.

He is still far from a return to first-team football at the Etihad Stadium.
'I spoke with Yaya today,' the Guardiola said on Friday. 'That's a private conversation. Yaya was in all our meetings and training sessions. You know the situation, nothing changed.'

When pressed for more information, Guardiola added: 'I answered about Yaya. I spoke with him he was good but that's all.'

Seluk's repeated criticisms of the City boss include suggestions he has a's*** personality', claims Guardiola had 'humiliated' Toure by failing to include him in his Champions League squad and allegations he treats his players 'like dogs'.

And on Friday he continued his defiance, telling talkSPORT: 'I'm not apologising. We want peace, but I'm not apologising. Apologise for what?

'Maybe Toure has apologised for this, but I don't know for what. I think Yaya don't mean this. He wants peace between him and Guardiola.

'A lot of supporters want to see Yaya on the field and Yaya wants to help Manchester City get good results.

'We want to make peace between Guardiola, Yaya and me for the supporters, the team and for the results.

'A player like Yaya, one of the top players in the world, with a big salary, normally doesn't stay out of the team. He must play.'

Seluk indicated earlier this week that he had been ordered by Toure to make peace with Guardiola but revealed the Spaniard had not taken his phone calls.

He told the Daily Mirror: 'I don't think that Pep will ever love me, but the most important thing is that we try to forgive what has happened in the past and develop a new relationship.

'This is a genuine gesture. I hope Pep accepts that my hope is that we can start with a clean page.'

Sorry, though, still seems to be the hardest word.
